Navigating Talent Challenges In 2024

As we start 2024, the word on the street seems to be new year, old challenges.  Early indicators appear to still list lack of qualified candidates as the number one struggle in 2024.  We are still in a talent shortage!  Additional challenges that will come to the table will be employees continuing the desire for remote and/or hybrid work, inflated salaries and candidates casually looking and not having a clear reason to make a job change, which will keep them from accepting a final offer for new employment.

What can you do to improve your potential to attract talent?  Here are a couple ideas:

1. Review your company’s culture and decide what you have to market to potential employees.  Interview your current staff to determine why they continue to work at your company.  You want to make sure to know and market your employer brand.

2. Talk to individuals that are currently in the positions that you are recruiting for in order to understand the responsibilities and challenges to be able to promote the opportunity.  Create your own job posting (different from your job description), based on the conversation that you had with staff members.  Include the sizzle of the job and the culture you have to offer!

3. Hold hiring managers accountable to realistic expectations in filling a position in a talent short market.  Based off of a recent Indeed survey, 71% of employers say they split the requirements in two categories: must-haves vs. nice-to-haves.  A practice that MJ Recruiters also utilizes when working with hiring managers to fill a position.

4. Short on time and short on staff? Outsource the hiring process to a professional recruiter, someone who can improve your hiring process and assist you in attracting top talent.  What should you look for in a recruiter? Quality over quantity, a clear recruitment process, easy to contact, etc. What is important to you?
