Successful, privately-held manufacturer is seeking a Strategic Buyer to be responsible for sourcing, analytics, inventory, cycle counts, and procurement for a fast-paced manufacturer.  As the Strategic Buyer, you will report to a Director and will work closely with one other buyer.   Daily you will be responsible for the following tasks:
 
Strategic Sourcing & Market Analysis
  • Analyze purchasing forecasts, supplier quotes, and market trends to optimize inventory control and negotiate total value across cost, quality, and lead times.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews, risk assessments, and audits to build a resilient supply chain.
  • Proactively identify and qualify secondary supply sources and contingency plans for high-risk materials.
Data Integrity & Purchasing Operations
  • Convert approved requisitions into Purchase Orders (POs) and manage the RFQ process in strict compliance with internal controls and ethical standards.
  • Reconcile supplier invoices against POs to resolve pricing or quantity discrepancies prior to payment.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and audit-ready records for all procurement activities.
Flexibility & Team Collaboration
  • Inventory Control & Hands-On Operations: Perform cycle counts, support physical inventory reconciliations, and coordinate intercompany transfers and outside repairs alongside plant teams.
  • Buyer Cross-Training: Partner and cross-train with the other buyer to ensure seamless coverage across all commodities and operational continuity.
  • Operational Agility: Step in to assist with travel arrangements, administrative tasks, or other operational needs as required.
 
This is a fast-paced position that requires qualified candidates to wear multiple hats and be able to support a collaborative, team-oriented working culture.  Individuals should be able to learn new tasks and commodities quickly, be able to handle changing priorities and enjoy supporting the manufacturing site.  The company offers medical benefits, dental, vision, short-term disability, profit sharing, paid holidays, and vacations.  

REQUIREMENTS for the Strategic Buyer:
1. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred; experience will be considered in lieu of a degree 
2. Depending on level of education, at least 2-3 years in a similar fast-paced, strategic buyer position  
3. Experience purchasing direct materials for production; additional MRO procurement would be ideal 
4. Experience with inventory and cycle counts 
5. Strong negotiation skills
6. Experience sourcing new vendors 
7. ERP experience 
8. Microsoft Excel experience, including charts, graphs, formulas, and macros 

Skills preferred but NOT required:
1. APICS certification 
2. Experience working for privately held organizations
